Maxitherm Boilers Pty Ltd, a privately owned company, started in 1946 as a specialist boiler company and built well over 4000 firetube and water tube boilers for the Australian and overseas market. The largest natural gas fired boilers Maxitherm built for the Australian market were the 50 MW installed at Carlton united breweries at Abbotsford and a similar boiler at Australian news print mill at Albury.

Boustead Singapore Ltd, a Singaporean publicly listed company, purchased the intellectual property rights from Maxitherm Boilers Pty Ltd in 2003 and set up a wholly owned subsidiary company called Maxitherm Combustion Technology Pte Ltd to hold these rights.

Boustead agreed to allow Maxitherm Boilers Pty Ltd to hold the trading and naming rights for the Australian and PNG markets. However in early 2007 it was apparent to Boustead that Maxitherm Boilers Pty Ltd was not performing well and was in fact depreciating the name and its reputation. Accordingly Boustead acted to take back the trading rights for the Australian and PNG markets as well as the trademark Maxitherm boilers and the trade name Maxitherm Boilers. Accordingly Maxitherm Boilers Pty Ltd changed its name to RM Boilers Pty Ltd.

RM Boilers Pty Ltd went into liquidation in July 2007.

Boustead registered a fully owned subsidiary company in Australia called Boustead Maxitherm Boilers Pty Ltd. This company started operation in June 2007 with a small core group of ex Maxitherm employees and its aim is to provide modern packaged firetube and water tube boilers to the Australian market.

Boustead Maxitherm Boilers Pty Ltd has since won a number of significant orders for gas fired water tube boilers (up to 20 MW in boiler capacity).
